Piscataway, NJ, March 24, 2017 (Newswire.com) - GenScript USA, Inc., the number one global provider of gene synthesis services, is announcing a partnership with iGEM to engage and expand the synthetic biology research community in China. This will be the ninth year GenScript has supported the iGEM competition, which enables young scientists all over the world to solve real-world scientific and medical challenges.
As a Platinum Partner sponsor of iGEM, GenScript will provide transportation logistics to ensure that all teams in China can receive the iGEM DNA distribution kit and submit their part samples back to iGEM in a timely manner. GenScript also will work with iGEM to expand and empower the synthetic biology community in China by recruiting more iGEM teams and organizing education workshops. These workshops allow iGEM participants to network and share ideas. With hundreds of Ph.D.-level scientists, GenScript can offer scientific and research-related support to these local teams.
“Considering GenScript’s extensive experience in synthetic biology and presence in China, we are in a unique position to support iGEM teams in China and help them excel,” said Heidi Huang, Ph.D., Associate Director of Marketing. “By empowering the teams through mentorship, our scientists provide scientific support and help expand the synthetic biology community.”
GenScript will also continue its tradition of supporting iGEM teams through research grants and in-kind support. Information regarding these supports will be available later this year at www.genscript.com/igem.html.
About GenScript. GenScript is the leading gene, peptide, protein, and antibody contract research organization in the world. Since building our foundation in 2002, GenScript has grown exponentially through our partnerships with scientists conducting fundamental life science research, translational biomedical research, and early stage pharmaceutical development. We provide life science services and products to scientists in over 100 countries worldwide. As of today, we are recognized as having built the best-in-class capacity and capability for biological research services encompassing gene synthesis and molecular biology, peptide synthesis, custom antibodies, protein expression, antibody and protein engineering, and in vitro and in vivo pharmacology – all with the goal to Make Research Easy. About iGEM. The International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Foundation is a non-profit organization that is dedicated not only to the advancement of synthetic biology, but also to the education and collaboration of all people involved. This is done through the fostering of an open community, collaboration and friendly competition.
The iGEM competition gives young students the opportunity to explore Synthetic Biology and its many uses by tackling everyday issues facing the world. Made up of primarily university level student, teams work together to design, build, test and measure a system of their own design using interchangeable biological parts and standard molecular biology techniques. Every year nearly 6, 000 people dedicated themselves to iGEM, then come together in the fall to present their work and compete at the annual Jamboree. The iGEM 2017 Giant Jamboree celebration will be held on November 9-13, 2017 in Boston, MA. For more information, visit igem.org and 2017.igem.org.
