Steve Wozniak and George Church to Take Stage at SynBioBeta 2018

The original homebrew computer club meets DIYBio

SynBioBeta, the world’s leading community of entrepreneurs, investors, and practitioners devoted to the responsible growth of synthetic biology, today announced industry giants Steve Wozniak and George Church will take the stage at the 7th Annual SynBioBeta Conference.

The Conference will be held at the Mission Bay Conference Center, in San Francisco, Oct. 1 to Oct. 3, 2018.

It's a rare opportunity to be able to bring together such kind individuals, from two different industries -- the technology and biotechnology worlds -- who are responsible for creating so much innovation in the world. They have had such a big impact on humanity and have been at the forefront of their fields for so many years. I am looking forward to this once in a lifetime event.

“It’s a rare opportunity to be able to bring together such kind individuals, from two different industries -- the technology and biotechnology worlds -- who are responsible for creating so much innovation in the world,” said John Cumbers, founder and CEO, SynBioBeta. “They have had such a big impact on humanity and have been at the forefront of their fields for so many years. I am looking forward to this once in a lifetime event.”

Steve Wozniak is an inventor, electronics engineer, programmer, tech entrepreneur, and philanthropist most widely known for his role co-founding Apple, Inc. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of the personal computer revolution. He was the main developer of the Apple II computer, is the sole inventor on several Apple patents, and designed the world’s first universal remote. His philanthropic activities have focused on technology for K-12 kids. He sponsored the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose and has also funded the technology program at his local school district in Los Gatos, CA.

George Church, Ph.D., Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School/MIT, is widely recognized for his innovative contributions to genomic science and his many pioneering contributions to chemistry and biomedicine. In 1984, he developed the first direct genomic sequencing method, which resulted in the first commercial genome sequence (the human pathogen, H. pylori). Dr. Church invented the broadly applied concepts of molecular multiplexing and tags, homologous recombination methods, and array DNA synthesizers. He is the co-author with Ed Regis of Regenesis, a book that explores the possibilities of the field of synthetic biology.

The Wozniak-Church session will be moderated by BioCurious co-founder and Research Director at the Institute for the Future (IFTF), Eri Gentry. The session will treat SynBioBeta 2018 attendees to an intellectually stimulating discussion about what it’s like to push electrons and to push carbon -- from the innovators themselves.
